Calculate your gauge from a swatch, the number of stitches you need and the pattern size to make.
Work out your gauge from a swatch
Your gauge swatch should be at least 15 cm or 6 in so that you can measure a 10 cm or 4 in square without distortion from the edges.
Calculate the number of stitches or rows you need to create a width or height
Now that you know your gauge, you can calculate how many stitches or rows you need to make the size you want.
Which pattern size do I need to use?
If you are finding it difficult to match pattern gauge, you might want to make a different size of the pattern that will create a finished time the size you want.
This calculator asks for your stitch gauge and the gauge asked for by the pattern. Both should be in the same units (cm or in) and measured over the same distance (10cm, 1 in or 4 in). The answer is rounded to the nearest whole number.
