At 05:30 on 15 July 1982, the earth dam holding back Lawn Lake in the Estes Park, part of the Rockies National Park, Colorado, USA failed. The resulting flood waters rushed downhill, creating an alluvial fan. This cataract was formed where the flood deposited boulders. Vegetation is now returning to the scarred landscape.
